Abstract
Male Wistar rats received orally a solution of cadmium chloride at a dose c orresponding to 10 mg Cd per kg of diet and fed a standard or a bentonite o r else a vitamin C supplemented diet. Rats were killed at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days of Cd administration and 7 days postdosing. In rats intoxicated with C d both vitamin C and bentonite increased renal and hepatic glutathione leve ls, except for a decrease at 7 days postdosing in bentonite supplemented ra ts. Moreover, the effect of bentonite on the GSH level was less than that p roduced by vitamin C.
