Abstract
Hunger is one of the chief impelling forces and in order to cope with this specific force human beings are to devise diversified ways and means. The h istory of hunger can be traced back to the prehistoric past and it is still to be seen influencing human bio-social life and activities. Thus it is a continuous process and is needed to be analysed in the background of human economic enterprises that have been coming into effect through the ages. Th is paper tries to highlight human endeavour to fight with the situation of hunger through the contrivances of varied bio-technological processes. In a nalysing the specific conditions closely associated with the functional rel ations amongst the human and natural factors the tradition-bound landmass c haracterised by multifarious natural resources and cultural diversities lik e Chotanagpur in South Bihar region has been taken up as a case in point.
