Abstract
We propose and study a coupling system composed of the tapered fiber and th e microsphere with nonlinear medium. The optical bistability and differenti al amplification caused by optical Kerr effect is demonstrated using a geom etrical method. We show that their operation characteristics can be control led by parameters: linear phase detuning, attenuation coefficient and real amplitude coupling coefficient. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.
