CARDIOVASCULAR ACTIVITY OF NATURALLY-OCCURRING LIGNANS

The activities of lignans and neolignans which directly or indirectly affect the cardiovascular system are reviewed. The results from molecu lar screening methods and animal models are included and an attempt to identify the molecular features which might influence some of the act ivities is made. The question of the benefit of low levels of circulat ing lignans in an organism is considered.
