Abstract
Small peptides selected from a library of 62 000 chemically synthesized pep tides were able to recognize a monosaccharide specifically and efficiently using both sandwiching and hydrogen bonding interactions, much like sugar-b inding proteins (lectins) with the appropriate orientation of amino acid si de chains.
