Abstract
Chiral effective field theory predicts a specific charge symmetry violating amplitude for pion production. This term is shown to provide a potentially large contribution to the forward-backward asymmetry in the angular distri bution for the reaction pn --> d pi (0). (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
