Abstract
A study on duck salmonellosis was conducted in the Can Tho province from Vi et Nam. One hundred and fifty samples (including cloacal swabs from ducklin g and feces from male and laying-ducks) were collected from 12 farms and on e hatchery and submitted to Salmonella bacteriological research. A mean 12. 7 % of all samples were found infected : one-day-old ducklings showed 10 % infection, ducklings under 4 weeks of age : 18 %, male ducks : 7.5 % and la ying ducks : 12.5 %. Infection and excretion of Salmonella increased at the beginning of the rainy season. A majority of the strains was found multire sistant to antibiotics, but remained sensitive to Norfloxacine, Amoxicillin and Trimethoprim + Sulfamethoxazole. This result must lead vietnamese vets to pay more attention to good rules in the practice of antibiotic treatmen ts and supplementations.
