F. Burlocarbonell et al., SENSITIVITY OF SALINITY IN LOQUAT PLANTS (ERIOBOTRYAE-JAPONICA L), Fresenius environmental bulletin, 6(7-8), 1997, pp. 481-488
The use of municipal wastewater for watering loquat plants was tested.
The effects of this water on the nutrient status of loquat plants is
reported. The loquats were settled on franco and Anger stocks. Plants
(grafted on franco stock) treated with this wastewater suffered from f
oliar necrosis, and 100% of the plants died (significant increment of
sodium level). For this, we recommend not using this wastewater in the
irrigation of loquat plants grafted on franco stock. However, the Ang
er stock has proved to be much more resistant to salinity. Therefore,
medium quality waters (wastewater/saline waters) can be used for the i
rrigation of loquat trees grafted on Anger stock without causing signi
ficant damages.
