Penicillazine (1) is a new compound with both quinolone and 4H-5,6-dihydro-
1,2-oxazine ring systems that was isolated from a culture of the marine fun
gus Penicillum sp. (strain #386). Its structure was elucidated using spectr
oscopic methods, primarily 2D NMR techniques, and was confirmed by an X-ray
diffraction analysis. Variations in the H-1 NMR spectrum of penicillazine
(1) were observed over a 65 degreesC tempcraturc range. (C) 2000 Elsevier S
