Hyperinsulinism (HI) in infancy presents a formidable challenge for the pae
diatrician as it is one of the most difficult problems to manage in contemp
orary paediatric endocrinology. Although there have been major advances in
understanding the condition over the last five years, the neurological outc
ome remains poor choice, and the choice of treatments continue to be unsati
sfactory. This review article updates the management of HI derived from a C
onsensus Workshop held by the European Network for Research into Hyperinsul
inism (ENRHI) in 1999.
