Photoluminescence (PL) from fullerene (C-60 and C-70)-doped polyvinylcarbaz
ole (PVK) films prepared by solution casting under laser irradiation (wavel
ength: 488 nm) has been studied. At the beginning of laser irradiation, ful
lerene-doped PVK have much stronger and broader PL than pure fullerene-cast
ed film and the other fullerene-doped polymers (PMMA, PS, PMPS and PPSQ) du
e to the effective energy transfer from WK to fullerene. By analysis of the
ir solubility, W-visible absorption spectra and mass spectra before and aft
er laser irradiation, PL intensity of fullerene-doped PVK decreases with la
ser irradiation time because most fullerene molecules may be bonded with th
e carbazole groups of PVK by laser-induced photochemical reaction. (C) 2000
