Abstract
Extreme values of delta S-34: +105.3 parts per thousand, +105.2 parts per t housand, +87.9 parts per thousand, +87.2 parts per thousand and +79.7 parts per thousand were determined in barite concretions from the Aptian-Lower A lbian marry limestone of the Krizna Nappe of the Western Carpathians, Slova kia. The phases relation in inclusions from these concretions, and the resu lts of thermo-vacuometric impulse decrepitation analyses indicate temperatu res of 50-60 degreesC, which correspond mostly to secondary inclusions. For the purpose of comparison, barite concretions from Rohoznik, Slovakia, fro m Gaiseltal, Germany, and from Havana, Cuba, were analyzed. Barite concreti ons with extremely high delta S-34 values were formed during late diagenesi s of organic matter-rich sediment in the depth range of very low pore water sulphate concentrations, below the sulphate reduction zone.
