Abstract
Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa is a difficult challenge for sur geons. The aim of the surgical procedure is to release the adduction contra cture of the thumb, and to separate the pseudosyndactyly to release the con tracture of the fingers to improve hand function, particularly pinch and gr ip. Surgery is performed in three steps. Without postoperative physiotherap y, recurrence of retractions is unavoidable. Prolonged physiotherapy with t he use of dynamic splints is useful.
