The upper limb in a child with the amyoplasia form of arthrogryposis presen
ts a challenge to the pediatric upper limb surgeon. The overriding goal is
to facilitate function for independent self-care and, in this age of electr
onic information, access to computers. For the child with arthrogryposis, a
bility to use computers may allow economic independence. This article revie
ws the principles of reconstructive surgery and the operative and nonoperat
ive means to improve position and enhance function in the arthrogrypotic up
per limb.
