Fungal infections of the upper urinary tract are relatively uncommon, a fun
gal bezoar formation beeing a particularly unusual complication. We report
a case of acute obstructive renal insufficiency due to bilateral ureteral o
bstruction with a C. albicans fungus ball. This infection was predisposed b
y a bladder stone and prostatism. Therapy usually consists in percutaneous
irrigation with amphotericin B in combination with systemic antifungal agen
ts. In this case, complete resolution of the obstruction was achieved by tr
eatment with forced diuresis and oral fluconazole.
