Abstract
The exact electron distribution in certain small isolated systems is derive d from the enumeration of the partitions of integers. The corresponding gen erating series are ascribed a physical interpretation. The well-known Fermi -Dirac statistics is recovered by averaging. (C) 2000 Academic Press.
