Abstract
Basic ideas of the needle synthesis method applicable for solving any moder
n problem of synthesizing multilayer optical coatings are considered. Combi
ning these ideas with the idea of the consistent evolution removes the prob
lem of choosing the initial approximation and completely automates the proc
ess of solving the synthesis problem. The efficiency of the developed synth
esis methods is demonstrated by a variety of practically important problems
.
