Abstract
The oldest fossil hydrometrid bug, Cretaceometra brasiliensis gen. nov., sp . nov., is described from the deposits of the Lower Cretaceous from Araripe Basin ( Brazil), estimated at 110 million years old, and belongs to the st em-group of the recent Hydrometrinae. This extinct form demonstrates the gr eat antiquity of the Hydrometridae.
