A chemical investigation of the aerial parts of Polianthes tuberosa resulte
d in the isolation of a new bisdesmosidic cholestane glycoside (1) and thre
e new spirostanol saponins (2-4), along with a known cholestane glycoside.
The structures of new glycosides were determined by spectroscopic analysis;
including 2D NMR spectroscopic data, and the results of hydrolytic cleavag
e. The isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity on HL
-60 human promyelocytic leukemia cells.
