Abstract
The purified lipid fraction (4.12% on the dry weight basis) from the seeds of Albizzia lebbeck was found to be 87.76% neutral and 12.24 % polar lipids . The whole oil lipid contained 64.76% unsaturated and 34.99% saturated fat ty acids. The fatty acid composition of hydrocarbon-wax-ester. triacylglyce rol and free fatty acid lipid classes generally contained higher amounts of 18:1 fatty acid (31%-33.4%) and lower amounts of 18:2 fatty acids (27.21%- 28.50%) as compared to diacylglycerol and monoacylglycerol fractions where 18:2 fatty acids were present in higher concentrations(31%-36.5%). The whol e oil and polar lipids showed high percentages of 18:1 fatty acids.Long cha in fatty acids (20:0 and 24:0) were generally more predominant than other s aturated fatty acids in all the lipid classes. The seed protein(36.50%) was analysed for its amino acid composition where lysine was found to be prese nt in high concentrations (1.1g/100g). Total carbohydrate and fiber were fo und to be 37.58% and 10.80% respectively. The mineral composition of the to tal ash (4.0%) was also determined and found to contain varying amounts of calcium, potassium, sodium iron, magnesium, manganese and copper.
