Objective - The authors wanted to study the bacteriological aspects of Salm
onella strains collected in the infectious Disease Clinic at the Dakar Fann
University Hospital, from January 1995 to June 1997.
Material and methods - The strains were identified according to biochemical
(API 20 E, Bio-Merieux) and antigenic features. Their susceptibility to an
tibiotic drugs was tested by antibiogram.
Results - Fifty strains were isolated and studied. The following serotypes
were isolated:Salmonella Typhi (50 %), Salmonella Enteritidis (28 %), Salmo
nella Typhimurium (10 %), Salmonella Paratyphi C (4 %), Salmonella Paratyph
i A (2 %), Salmonella Infantis (2 %), Salmonella Dublin (2 %), and Salmonel
la Fusherhuette (2 %); 66 % of the strains were susceptible to all beta -la
ctams and 20 % were secreting an extended-spectrum beta -lactamase; 80 % to
100 % of the strains were susceptible to other antibiotic drugs, and no st
rain was resistant to fluoroquinolones. (C) 2000 Editions scientifiques et
