The synthesis of the complex Cadmium 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-bisphosphonate
dihydrated Cd(HEBP). 2H(2)O is described. This compound crystallizes with
the monoclinic P2(1)/n (n degrees 14) group and a = 14.229(3)Angstrom, b =
5.613(1)Angstrom, c = 11.521(3)Angstrom, beta = 93.06(1)degrees, V = 918.8(
4)Angstrom (3), Z = 4. Cd is sixfold coordinated. It is bonded to one tride
ntate, one bidentate and one monodentate (HEBP)(2-) ligands. The structure
is made up of chains of summit-sharing CdO6 polyhedra along the [010] direc
tion. These chains are linked together through hydrogen bonds involving the
water molecules. (HEBP)(2-) ligands are only linked together by weak hydro
gen bonds involving also and exclusively the water molecules. The complex H
g(HEBP). 2H(2)O synthesized by the same method is isostructural; the cell p
arameters are: a = 14.346(4)Angstrom, b = 5.692(2)Angstrom, c = 11.621(4)An
gstrom, beta = 95.17(2)degrees, V = 945(1)Angstrom (3).
