Abstract
An Indian Ocean gorgonian Subergorgia suberosa Pallas furnishes a new secosteroid 4 along with a secosteroid 6, a trihydroxysteroid 5, a mix ture of pregnane derivatives 2 and 3, a mixture of eleven monohydroxys terols sand subergorgic acid 1, a tricyclicsesquiterpene acid. The str ucture of the new secosteroid has been established as 3,9-dioxo-9,11-s ecocholesta-5,7-dien-11-al by a study of its physical and spectral (UV , IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR and Mass) data.
