Abstract
During a projected synthesis of 4,7,11,14-tetramethyldibenzo [fg,op] n aphthacene 3 en route to Pinakene 2, a [70]-fullerene fragment, an unp recedented photochemical reaction leads to dimethylnaphthacene derivat ive 7. Flash vacuum pyrolysis on 7 leads to 8 via a transannular bridg ing.
