The stability of the beta-CD cinnamic aldehyde inclusion complex was i
nvestigated by TG and DSC. The weight loss takes place in three stages
: dehydration occurs at 50-120 degrees C; the dissociation of beta-CD
. C9H8O occurs at 200-260 degrees C; and the decomposition of beta-CD
begins at 280 degrees C. The kinetics of the dissociation of cinnamic
aldehyde from the beta-CD cavity were studied by means of thermogravim
etry both at constant temperature and linear increasing temperature. T
he results show that the dissociation of beta-CD . C9H8O is dominated
by a one-dimensional diffusion process. The activation energy, E, is 1
60 kJ.mol(-1). The pre-exponential factor A is 5.8 x 10(14) min(-1).
