Abstract
The critical intensity inside plasma filaments generated in air by high-pow er, ultra-short laser pulses is estimated analytically and compared to rece nt experimental data. The result, I-crit approximate to 4 x 10(13) W/cm(2), is highly relevant for atmospheric applications.
