Abstract
The mismeasure of inflation is likely to be more severe in a transitional e conomy than in a more stable, free-market one. Reasonable estimates of the size of the inflationary bias in the Czech Republic suggest that convention ally reported declines in real output and living standards during the trans ition may be more a statistical artifact than a real phenomenon.
