Abstract
In this paper, isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE) have been experimenta lly measured for the several binary systems: methanol + dimethyl carbonate (DMC), ethanol + DMC, ethanol + diethyl carbonate (DEC), DMC + DEC, and eth anol + ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC). Thermodynamic consistencies of these e xperimental data are verified with the statistic method developed by Hu et al. [J. East China Inst. Chem. Technol. (in Chinese) 10 (2) 1984 205] Inter action parameters related to the carbonate group (-OCOO-) in UNIFAC model h ave been determined using the VLE data, with that of -CH2-/-OCOO- being hug e up to 3.31 x 10(5), implying a rather strong nonideality of the systems i nvolving alkanes and alkyl carbonates. The experimental results in this wor k as well as those by other contributors agree excellently with the calcula ted ones using the newly correlated UNIFAC parameters. (C) 2000 Elsevier Sc ience B.V.
