Abstract
Tyrolobibenzyls A (2), B (3), and C (4) were isolated from Scorzonera humil is (Asteraceae) of Tyrolean origin. Compounds 2 and 3 possess a unique phen ylethyl-benzofuran backbone and represent a new class of natural compounds. Structural assignments are based on 1D and 2D NMR as well as MS data. Furt hermore. peracetylated derivatives of compounds 3 and 4 were synthesized. P harmacological evaluation of these compounds by the [H-3]thymidine assay sh owed no pronounced cytotoxicity.
