A plasmid (pAct1-F), containing beta-glucuronidase (GUS) as a reporter
gene, was delivered into embryogenic rice cells by using silicon carb
ide whiskers (SCW). The cells were thoroughly mixed with the plasmid a
nd SCW, incubated for 1 day and transient GUS activity was revealed hi
stochemically. Under optimal conditions, 533 transformants per 1 g wet
cells were observed.
