According to the study of 923 families prevalence of hypertension in Nizheg
orodskaya region was 37% (soft criteria, blood pressure >140/90 mm Hg) or 1
8% (hard criteria, blood pressure >160/95 mm Hg). Hypertension was classifi
ed as I, II and III grade in 50,3, 31,2 and 18,5% of hypertensives, respect
ively. Prevalence of hypertension (hard criteria) was highest in Nizhny Nov
gorod (22,3%). Majority of men (82,9%) and women (90,9%) were informed abou
t their hypertension. Efficacy of therapy did not exceed 8,6%. Proportion.
of controlled hypertension (according to WHO criteria) was 1,5% overall and
0,5% among men aged 40-60 years.
