Fishing on foot is an ancestral activity developed on beaches, seashores an
d mudflats at low tide. Little has been written about this cultural practic
e which is rather varied in its forms.
Habits are defined within local communities according to space and techniqu
es, codes and tools, social relationships and lifestyle, all of which mould
collective identities. Through an anthropological study of the body and te
chniques fishing on foot can be revisited from a new perspective at a time
when European legislative bodies are attempting to restrict its practice.
