A laboratory methodology has been developed to assess the effect of differe
nt commercial liquid scavengers of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) on the normal dow
nstream operations in gas pipelines. Their capacity to capture H2S was eval
uated in mixtures of H2S/N-2 and H2S/carbon dioxide (CO2) gases. The abilit
y of the scavengers to control corrosion was also evaluated, showing a bett
er performance when only H2S was present than with mixtures of CO2 and H2S.
Compatibility with corrosion inhibitors was evaluated, and the results wer
e favorable.
