Antibiotic synergy and antagonism

This article discusses some current problems in antibacterial combination t herapy, including methods of laboratory testing for synergistic effect of a ntibiotic combinations, synergy and antagonism of known mechanisms as studi ed in experimental models, and antibiotic combinations available commercial ly. The author also examines clinical situations where a therapeutic benefi t can be expected by prescribing a combination of antibiotics.
