The efficient synthesis and characterization of the trans-platinum complex
(Ph3P)(2)Pt(C25H13N) by coupling the dialkyne 3,5-bis-(2-ethynyl-phenylethy
nyl)pyridine with cis-PtCl2(PPh3)(2) is described. The X-ray crystal struct
ure shows that the platinum center is essentially square planar with the tw
o phosphine ligands mutually perpendicular to the planar organic ligand.
