We have measured the ct-particle spectra at different laboratory angles fro
m the fusion reaction O-16 + Fe-54 at 110 MeV. The results are compared wit
h the Si-28 + Al-27 symmetric system. In the case of the asymmetric O-16 Fe-54 system a spectra are consistent with the predictions of the statistic
al model calculations but in the case of the symmetric Si-28 + Al-27 system
, experimental spectra deviate at higher as well as at lower energies from
the statistical model calculations. The results are also compared with a le
ss asymmetric 28Si + V-51 system. There is a systematic change in the forma
tion time of the compound nucleus as we move from the asymmetric to the sym
metric systems. The dynamical trajectory model calculations have been done
to understand the possible entrance channel effects on the formation and th
e decay of the compound nucleus.
