We extend a modified Newton-Sabatier method for the solution of the fixed e
nergy, coupled channels, inverse scattering problem to deal with a set of c
luster transfer reactions. The method is tested by using analytic model pot
entials for the transfer reaction O-16(alpha, Be-8)C-12. For low energy sca
ttering we show that inclusion of S matrices for nonphysical, noninteger an
gular momenta are required to find stable solutions. The possibility of app
lication to actual experimental data is discussed.
