A bioassay monitored fractionation of a chloroform extract from the aerial
parts of Baccharis trimera a yielded a mixture that blocked the Ca2+-induce
d contractions of KCl-depolarized rat portal vein preparations. Pharmacolog
ical tests of two pure compounds isolated from the mixture revealed the dil
actonic clerodane diterpene as the active compound. (C) 2000 Elsevier Scien
