This article presents a thematic analysis of be meaning of psychosis. The a
nalysis is based on first person accounts of eight persons suffering from s
erious mental illnesses Based on these accounts the author calls for an end
to be estrangement between psychiatric rehabilitation and the spiritual li
ves of people with mental illnesses by showing be importance of an integrat
ed approach to psychiatric care. The need for such an approach is evident i
n be accounts of persons who experienced psychoses. These survivors of trau
ma not experienced by many outside the psychiatric community plead for care
ful consideration of their interpretation of Psychotic phenomenon They repo
rt having adopted attitudes and lifestyles that have given direction to the
ir lives and strategies for survival.
