An analysis is made of a lidar designed on the basis of a broadband repetit
ively pulsed IR parametric oscillator for monitoring multicomponent aerosol
and gaseous atmospheric pollutions. It is shown that efficient parametric
generation of femtosecond IR radiation can be obtained in a scheme using th
e properties of group velocity matching.
