Abstract
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is considered as a T-cell mediated autoimmune disea se. Caused by central nervous system demyelination and axonal damage varyin g clinical signs do occur either with relapsing-remitting or with chronic p rogressive course. Based on pathogenetic considerations immunomodulative an d immunosuppressive therapeutical approaches are used to limit the disease progression. Clinical symptoms, diagnostic criteria, pathogenetical conside rations, and consecutive therapeutical interventions are summarized.
