Abstract
This paper describes the risk of transmission and possible consequences of viral diseases in pigs (as CSFV, PRRSV and SVD), transmitted via Al and emb ryo transfer. Transmission via Al is, however, more unlikely for CSF and SV D than for PRRS. The likelihood of disease transmission is greater with the introduction of a boar into a herd than through the use of fresh or frozen semen, The probability that an infection with CSF or SVD virus starts with in an Al centre is very small, because of the high hygienic measurements an d quarantine period, although the viruses can be transmitted if these centr a are located within a protection zone. Therefore, during an outbreak, it s hould be recommended to stop semen distribution within this zone.
