Abstract
DNA-DNA hybridization showed that the Brucella strains recently isolated fr om marine mammals belong to the monospecific genus Brucella (more than 77% DNA relatedness). Ribotyping (HindIII rDNA restriction patterns) showed tha t they may represent a separate subgroup (marine type) specifically associa ted with marine mammals.
