Effluents containing cationic softeners constitute a potential risk for the
environment, which is commonly monitored by toxicity bioassays. In this st
udy, EC50/LC50/LC50 for several cationic softeners, in both Emulsions and m
icroemulsions, were estimated through bioassays (Photobacterium phosphoreum
) and aquatic biota (Chlorella vulgaris, Scenedesmus subspicatus, Selenastr
um capricornutum, Daphnia magna and Oncorhynchus mykiss). The results obtai
ned from the different bioassays were compared and their implications for t
oxicity monitoring weve assessed.
