C. Keles et al., A cardiac hydatid cyst involving the basal interventricular septum causingbiventricular outflow tract obstruction, THOR CARD S, 48(6), 2000, pp. 377-379
We report a case of a 37-year-old sheep-raising man with a cardiac hydatid
cyst involving the basal interventricular septum causing biventricular outf
low obstruction. He suffered from multi-organ hydatidosis and underwent cer
ebral hydatid cyst extirpation and right nephrectomy for renal echinococcos
is. The diagnosis of the cyst was obtained by echocardiography and magnetic
resonance imaging. The diagnosis was confirmed by positive hemagglutinatio
n test. He was operated on for cardiac hydatid cyst using enucleation and c
apitonnage procedure under extracorporeal circulation. The morbidity was co
mplete atrioventricular block, necessitating VDD pacemaker implantation. Th
is was followed by medical treatment with albendazole (400 mg/day).
