Abstract
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility of GdNi5, GdNi 4Al, GdNi2Al3 and GdNiAl4 are reported. The magnetic state of Ni 3d-electro ns strongly depends on the crystallographic structure of the compounds, sho wing spin fluctuations in GdNi5 and GdNi4Al, a similar behavior with that o f metallic Ni in GdNi2Al3 and a filled 3d-band in GdNiAl4.
