To assess whether gender influences the results of coronary stenting, 158 c
onsecutive women undergoing coronary stenting were compared with 823 consec
utive men. Women had more adverse baseline characteristics, a higher hospit
al mortality, and were independently associated with procedural failure/com
plications (relative risk 2.4, 95% confidence interval 1.2 to 4.8); however
, the long-term event-free survival and the restenosis rate were not influe
nced by gender.
