The interphase preparation of gold dispersions in hexane using N,N-tridecyl
(3-aza-3decyltridecan)ammonium iodide as the phase transfer agent is descri
bed. Dispersity and phase composition of the disperse phase of colloidal di
spersions were analysed by chemical analysis, transmission electron microsc
opy (TEM), X-ray diffractometry XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS
) and UV-vis spectroscopy. The disperse phase of the colloidal dispersion i
s shown to consist of crystalline spherical particles of gold having the me
an diameter ca. 2.6 nm (sigma = 0.47). The properties of the gold film depo
sited at the walls of the reaction Vessel in the aqueous phase simultaneous
ly with formation of the gold hexane colloidal dispersion are also describe
