Abstract
There are several examples in the literature where effects of inhomogeneous broadening on radiation damping of free precession signals have been descr ibed using a phenomenological 1 / T-2* term in the Bloch equations. The ina ppropriate use of this model is illustrated for specific cases. Correct sig nal shapes are predicted only when isochromat solutions of Bloch's equation s are integrated over the spectrum of the inhomogeneous field. (C) 2001 Joh n Wiley & Sons, Inc.
