R. Felberbaum et W. Dahncke, The German IVR Registry as a quality assurance tool and for use in patientcounseling, GYNAKOLOGE, 33(11), 2000, pp. 800-811
The public demand for information and clarity in the highly sensitive area
of human reproductive medicine is more than justified. Only after a reliabl
e evaluation and an open discussion of the results which have been achieved
will the success of these forms of treatment be socially accepted and at t
he same time misunderstandings prevented. Furthermore, such an analysis rep
resents a Valuable aid for reliable counseling of the couples involved.
To meet this challenge, national registries in 19 European countries are co
llecting and evaluating pertinent data. In Germany there are records of rep
roductive medical treatments dating back to 1982. Over the years the number
of participating centers and registered treatments has increased drastical
ly. Although a detailed presentation of the German IVF registry data would
show remarkable results, further improvement is still required.
Our goal should be to require complete data on all treatments which have be
en conducted in Germany, complete follow-up of all pregnancies which have b
een achieved and the children born of them, and a neutral control of all pr
acticing centers.
